AbstractImagine going to work everyday just trying to make a living to support your family and years later finding that you are either sick or dying because of your employer not telling you about the dangers of you just breathing while working there Well this has happened to thousands of people who were exposed to a material that were used to construct buildings many years ago called asbestos This is actually airborne fibers that are inhaled and attach to the sac linings of the lungs the abdominal organs and the heart cavity They have already banned asbestos in the United States since 1975 but there have been about eight million people who it may be to late for because of the exposure There are different types symptoms treatments and stages of mesothelioma Mesothelioma is a very rare form of cancer with three different types which include Peritoneal Pericardial and Pleural The Peritoneal is the tissue that gets infected in the abdomen containing the liver and organs The Pericardial is the tissue surrounding the heart and the pleural is the tissue surrounding the lungs and is the most common type of mesothelioma This is different from lung cancer since the cancer is on the outside of the lung rather than in the lung itself The infection is caused by inhaling the dust from asbestos which are long tiny fiber like materials that get trapped in the body and cannot clear because they become attached to the tissue and irritate the pleura It is a slow and long term process that is not easy to diagnose mainly because many of the symptoms can be similar to other recognized illnesses Symptoms include chest pain soreness in the lower back area coughing complicatedness in breathing weight loss and fever Breathing becomes difficult for the reason that the infected pleura constrict the lung and diaphragm It usually takes thirty to forty years to develop the cancer following the exposure to
