In a world of fast-paced developments the concept of management has been crucial in our everyday life The history of management theories originates in 1860s due to industrialisation and the invention of steam power machines Kurzynski 2012 which encouraged people to question this complex concept This complexity motivated managers to think out side the box and create better theories to accomplish their goals This essay will analyse how management theories in the 21st century has changed significantly in comparison to the 20th century by focusing on important differences such as division of work Manager-Employee psychology and innovation Division of work was the aftermath of the first scientific management theory by Fredrick Taylor The best management is a true science resting upon clearly defined laws rules and principles Kiechel 2012 Managers defined scientific rules and procedures so that employees follow a repetitive scientific method to perform their everyday tasks more efficiently and effectively Parker and Riston 2005 Furthermore Rodrigues 2011 highlights how Fayols principles suggested an improvement to Taylors theory by separating jobs into smaller pieces allowing employees to specialise in one task in order to increase productivity Evidently the major focus the two theories were on managers performing the planning or thinking whilst forcing employees to strictly obey ordersHowever now days most developed countries are investing on different methods to increase efficiency Rodrigues 2011 highlights modern robots and machines completing tasks without getting exhausted or demotivated In other words modern 21st century technologies such as computers are overtaking human employees Managers are now decreasing the number of human labours whilst trying to hire professional employees to control the robots Parker and Riston 2005 Although 21st century managers are still using the fundamentals of scientific theories but there has been significant changes as it didnt consider manager-employee relationships to enhance productivity As demonstrated by both Rodrigues 2011 and Kurzynski2012 robots are examples developing technologies as they have strong potentials to overtake humans in the future
