The movie Black Robe 1991 was directed by Bruce Beresford known for movies such as Driving Miss Daisy and Double Jeopardy Bruce was born in Australia in the wonderful year of 1940 Having graduated from Sydney University in 1962 Bruce went on to work for the British Film institute from 1966-1971 Adding to his rather long and impressive resume Bruce had directed several Operas a personal favourite being Sweeny Todd The demon barber of fleet street The film Black Robe Tells the audience of the evils of religion on both sides for example The black robe would like to think that the entire country is ruled by the devil and only gods good grace can save them when in reality these people do not need saving As said by Daniel these people are good Christians they live for each other They forgive things we never would while on the opposite end we have the Indians who are convinced that the priest is a demon because of the Mestigoit they attempt to leave the Frenchmen behind to die This movie does a good job at painting both sides in a good light and a poorFrom what I am able to understand Black Robe portray itself as a historical drama and throughout most of the film they focus on the drama rather than the history behind it For example when Daniel meets the Indian guides daughter for the first time he cannot take his eyes off her Immediately we as the audience know that a relationship will grow that will be frowned upon by both Indian and French alike Of course the film needed some of these moments because without them it would be almost impossible to sit through a hour and a half film of this group travelling to meet the Huron IndiansI think one of the things that saved this movie from itself were the small portions comedic relief There was a scene in
