Alcohol is the most used and the most abused drug in the United States It is consumed not only by citizens over the age of 21 but is widely consumed by citizens under the age of 21 Underage drinking most commonly leads to binge drinking which can lead to life threatening situations or accidents This poses the question that this country has been struggling with for quite some time should the drinking age be lowered to 18 The two sides of this issue are very persuasive but it seems more logical if the drinking age was lowered to 18 years of age for many safety reasons and to prevent teenagers from acting impulsivelyThere are many pros that almost make it feel as if it is absurd that the drinking age is 21 years of age The first reason why the drinking age should be lowered again to 18 is one that has constantly been used but it is actually very true This reason is if one has the ability to and has to make decisions to vote to get married to sign contracts and to join the armed forces which is virtually a life or death decision then they should be trusted to make decisions about the consumption of alcohol If they are trusted to fight for their fellow citizen and to protect them then there is no reason why they should not be trusted to make a decision about alcohol The next reason that the drinking age should be lowered to 18 is because if young kids or teenagers are not taught how to drink causally or moderately they will end up binge drinking This also leads to the next reason which is lowering the drinking age will make alcohol less of a taboo and this will take the thrill away from teenagers as they are consuming alcohol and binge drinking which is ultimately acting out impulsively Binge drinking which is consuming a large
