Public opinion is the basis of dysfunction in those bearing moral standards These people lose morality when gossiping prating or ultimately contorting someones reputation Communal speculation can create their own turmoil making them less virtuous by damaging anothers clean slate through spreading falsities By allowing caustic public opinion to seem moral they find following the majority is easier than believing personal standards of righteousness Ruining anothers reputation and conforming to the masss opinion causes those in the group to be immoral in their decision to speak ill of someone A rumor can be believed true even if it is a lie As quickly as a reputation was clean it becomes tainted with the lies others are diffusing The virtue of a clean man who decides to spread libel simply because others are conforming to it as well labels them unvirtuous for acting in a way they typically see unfit The responsibility of drawing on someones clean slate hurts their future and eliminates a line of morals Public opinion ruins virtue in the decision to lie much like that of Tom Robinson in To Kill A Mockingbird turning his reputation rotten in his racist town through the talk of his untrue actions Robinson did not rape anyone including the white women causing his trial However the public so strongly believed he did shattering his image because of the deception concocted in the prejudice deep south of Alabama Toms virtue was not scathed merely his town was proved unethical by their ability to be blinded by race and rumor Their gossip spreading lies and ease of believing them unquestioningly represents the gullible qualities of human nature which are deciding factors in their morality and judgement In this scenario if virtue does not allows A to demolish Bs notoriety then it is truly inconceivable that that virtue would be retained for A after the ruination of Bs reputation of purity In another sense a group can be
