Global warming has been a serious issue for many years now as carbon gases are ruining the natural environment and habitats and interfering with the ways of Mother Nature The Gathering Storm was an inspiring article about the causes of global warming as it reflects how poor nations have a growing and stronger effect of global warming than developed countries According to the article developed countries are the least affected by global warming as their carbon emissions are slowly affecting the lives of individuals in poor nations The amount of carbon emissions have are released every year by developed countries contributing to the negative effects across the world Between 1850 and 2000 a total of 30 percent of carbon emissions has been released by the United States of America 27 percent from the European Union and 7 percent from China Because of these carbon emissions the numbers of floods cyclones and storms have quadrupled in the past two decades and the number of people who have been affected by these catastrophes has increased from 147 million a year to more than 250 million One of the millions individuals who have been affected by major floods in Bangladesh is Firoza Khatun According to Khatun the water from the floods had increased from her wrist to her waist in a matter of time in result her family had to evacuate the house and unfortunately like many other families Khatun and her family had also lost their house I believe the author did a very well job of making a good argument because of the facts they had used to support their statement For instance when the author had mentioned that global warming is affecting the poor nations more than developed nation it was supported with Firoza Khatuns tragic story and also a percentage of how much carbon emissions are released by developed countries The author made a good use of bring their point out in the article
