The friendship between two cultures We live in a world created by numerous countries cultures and languages each uniquely differentiates individuals across nations With advanced technologies such as telephone and e-mail we now can communicate in greater distance speed and convenience Thus the culture and language gap we so accustomed to can be greatly reduced through these devices More importantly a better understanding between culture groups through our education is greatly benefiting individuals who take residence to another country Adding recognition across cultures and subtracting racism equal an amazing tale of a young Chinese immigrant I once attended a summer camp at an Army School at San Diego It was my very first trip to America a nation that I only dreamed about prior to the trip The first obstacle I encountered was learning a complete different language I could only understand a few words and often misunderstood from peoples questions We had an English class every day and I had to work twice as hard as other student to catch up what I missed It was difficult but rewarding at the same time because that my English skills improved every day Besides the intense English class we also have outdoor activity such as surfing Yang 2 It was as if almost a requirement to learn how to surf in San Diego Other students strictly upheld a silent rule that carries on the camp If a student cannot surf he or she would ostracize by other students Besides English I knew I had to pick up surfing quickly before anything else to avoid being mocked There were two people who caught my attention during the first day of the introductory class The first person I noticed was a very big instructor of the camp Mr Ford No one had ever seen his smile nor heard any encouraging words from him Mr Ford was tough but fair He insisted on discipline and rules For
