My father has never been the kind of man to ever visit the doctor Herarely gets sick and he knows how to take care of other wounds Hedoesnt have annual check-ups and hasnt actually been to the hospitalaside from a few minor things since my grandfather had his chemotherapytreatments So it was a big surprise when my dad called me one eveningto tell me that he was in the emergency roomAs soon as I hung up the phone I threw on some clothes grabbed my keysand wallet and I headed out the door I drove as quickly as possible tothe VFW on Main Street and sprinted to the front door Finally aftera few minutes of rigorous knocking someone opened the door I bargedin pausing to let my eyes adjust to the dim lighting I franticallysearched for my mother finding her sitting with my stepfather Mom I yelled Dads in the emergency room we need to go NOWI briskly walked out the back door and hopped up into the truck notonce acknowledging my mothers frivolous questions We drove as fast aswe could to get to the hospital When we arrived I wasted no time as Iran through the Emergency Room entrance I walked up to the securitydesk asked for my dads room number got my badge and went off insearch of his room My dad had a look of surprise on his face when hesaw me walk through the door What are you doing here He asked me I laughed Well youre in the emergency room Thats why Im hereBy that time my mom had found her way back to the room in a frenzyleaving my stepdad to relax in the waiting area We sat down and talkedabout the events that had led up to this unexpected hospital visitApparently he had started to notice some changes with his body so hedecided to go to Urgent Care He didnt think much of it and decided togo on
