Freshman English has been a very eye opening experience so far Itransferred my sophomore year therefore I never took English as afreshman at Ursula Being a senior in AP English I can see how thecurriculum is set to help a student progress throughout the years Whileobserving the class I can see how important it is to know literaryelements and how that follows through in all the years of high schoolIn order to write a solid paper one must know the many elements such asconflict irony antagonist etc and the role they play in making agood cohesive paper Ms Dingee is starting the freshman off with basics so by the time theyreach senior year they are able to write a college level essay Thefirst lesson was on plagiarism I know sometimes students may think thattopic is a waste of time or is unimportant but in fact it is the exactopposite being a senior I cant stress how important it is Studentsreally need to understand the relevance it has and will have as theirEnglish years continue at Ursula Plagiarism is not the only importantthing however at the beginning of the year the class started off withanalyzing and understanding their summer reading The students had toread three books The Giver by Lois Lowry To Kill A Mockingbird byHarper Lee and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck Starting off thestudents began to pick out important and significant details within thestories The students did a project in which they chose their favoritescene from one of the three novel they talked about the novel exploringits importance in the story itself This was a good start for thestudents because not only were they able to strengthen their analyticalsense but also open up to their classmates and hear what they have tosay about the topic MsDingee allowed them to open up not only as astudent but also as a peer amongst fellow classmates I think that for the first month a
