The NCO Corps for years have been charged with the responsibility of maintaining the standards and training Soldiers to accomplish the mission Accomplishing this can bring a tremendous amount of delight and satisfaction to the NCO I would like to talk about my experiences on a Military Transition Team both the good and the bad but overall the sense of accomplishment it can bring to an NCO who puts out the necessary effort Taking our knowledge and experience to international armies in an effort to develop them to be self-efficient is a difficult task with numerous payoffs TrainingOne of the significant factors of any Transition Team is that you take Soldiers from multiple Military Occupational Skills MOS and branches and put them together on a small team of 10-15 personnel to act independently in the effort of supporting the training of local forces internationally My team consisted of five officers O3-O5 and five enlisted personnel E6-E8 All were supposed to be proficient in their career fields and prepared to train local forces This was not always the case and became an issue on other teams I filled the position of the Enlisted Intelligence Advisor to assist the major who was the Intelligence Officer Advisor Additionally I served as the NCOIC of the team as the Senior Enlisted Member on the team In order to prepare us to serve as a small team would require training of new skills retrain old skills and develop us as a team The initial training to accomplish this started at Fort Riley Kansas It was 2 months long of pre-deployment activities to include weapons qualifications on individual weapons and crew weapons along with battle drills Additionally it went into some additional skills that could be required for a small independent team which included Combat Lifesaver communication training HMMWV High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle Egress Assistance Trainer HEAT Rollover
