When selecting my Outward Bound course I knew I wanted to do something different and see somewhere that I had never been before While I have visited California I havent been more north than Los Angeles Another aspect of the trip that interested me was the rock climbing I have only ever rock climbed at my local YMCA for birthday parties I knew this would present a new challenge of conquering my fear of heights and testing my physical ability to use my body to climb a face of a rockThe first night we giggled as one of our instructors Chad explained how our food bowls should be cleaned We all licked our bowls semi-clean and then rinsed them out with water that we drank to prevent animals from finding This was the first Leave No Trace lesson Later that night we learned how to brush our teeth and spray our toothpaste and water mix This took the whole ten days to slowly perfectThe morning of day two consisted of lessons of what a good campsite looks like This means you have an area for each tent a group circle the gearrage and kitchen The tents need a somewhat level surface and rocks to hold out the side We also learned how to tie knots in order to reconstruct our tents The kitchen portion of the campsite needs a non-flammable surface such as granite to reduce the already high risk of fires Before heading off on our first climb we learned how to pack our backpacks using every little air pocket available Our backpacks looked outrageous and we had quite a struggle launching them onto our backs All the girls did eventually have to ask one another to lift the packs onto our backsWe left our campsite and hiked a mile to our first granite dome Voyager Chad set up three climbs and we all began to
