As a future educator I believe it is essential for teachers to have a positive classroom environment A classroom environment which is harmonious safe to learn and all students can express their feelings I believe an educator should be respected and should show respect to students there should be a mutual respect in the classroom Both the teacher and the students should have rights in the classroom In order to obtain a functional classroom there are many important components Discipline classroom management classroom content behavior management accommodations lesson plans standards expectations and many more duties a teacher has to fulfill There are many discipline and classroom management theories that a teacher can choose from One of the theories I will practice in my classroom will be Lee Canter and Marlene Canters theory which is based on assertive discipline rewards and punishments discipline hierarchy and rights of students and teachers I like Canters theory of assertive discipline in which a teacher place limits and consequences for students Canter Canter This creates expectations on students so that they can make the correct choices If students dont make correct choices such as to follow rules then Discipline Hierarchy Canter Canter comes into play this is when the teacher places an appropriate consequence to the negative behavior Consequences that are appropriate to each negative action I believe some misbehavior can be too extreme and need more effective consequences I also like Canters theory Rights of Teachers and Students a practice that can be used is if both students and teacher make and post rules That way both teacher and students know of the rules and teachers can implement the class rules I also agree with what Canter stated about teacher effectiveness Because effective teaching and effective managing go hand in hand teachers should not be so hounded by behavior problems that their teaching effectiveness is lost I believe this statement is extremely true if a teacher fails
