As a senior at Pascack Hills High School I chose to take Family Living an elective class offered at my school This course taught me how to play an active role in the planning organizing and involvement of the on-site preschool at my high school It was my third year in the program and as my last assignment I was given a final project The final project was to pick a learning disability to research and write a report about it including cited works used and an iMovie After getting this assignment I knew it was going to be a positive experience through all of the planning and feedbackAfter getting the instructions and guidelines I began to look up information on the Internet on my chosen topic of Dyslexia My teacher instructed the class to focus on some key areas and questions to help with the research process I needed to provide answers to specific questions including how the disability is diagnosed how common it is how long someone would have it the different types of treatments what symptoms to look out for and the long-term problems of having dyslexia After gathering the needed information I created an outline and organized how all my collected research was going to be written This was a very positive experience for me because as I started writing my paper not only was I gaining knowledge about dyslexia but it also made me realize what people with this disability have to go through every day This assignment made me a stronger writer because it taught me how to paraphrase the information that I researched It also taught me how to gather essential information rather than include details that werent useful or important to the main topic I enjoyed writing this final paper because I became more informed about dyslexia and at the same time I felt that I became an improved writer by gaining organization and research skills
