Orestes Oedipus and Antigone are all heroes They did not go on a far-reaching journey into a no-mans land or jump at any opportunities to kill a deadly beast that is larger than life and twice as strong as they could ever be Being hero does not mean that you have to do any of these things A hero is someone who does right whether they are being watched or not they are selfless and righteous Orestes Oedipus and Antigone are heroes because of their bravery and courage in the face of defeat and hard times to comeOrestes was the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra He belonged to the House of Atreus which is one of the most famous families in mythology andone of the most ill-fated The cause of this misfortune is because of an ancestor of the family Tantalus King of Lydia He was punished because of wicked deeds and the evil went on after his death His descendants were to cursed Orestes siblings were Iphigenia and Electra Iphigenia was sacrificed by her father to Artemis in hopes of good fortune for her father in the war with Troy As a result Agamemnons wife had an affair while he was gone in war with Aegisthus Upon Agamemnons return home his wife killed him Orestes knew that he must reverse the curse on his family and descendants and in doing so he would exact his own ruin Orestes was set on avenging his fathers death but to kill ones own mother was enough to have one killed in return In conflict with himself Orestes went to Delphi Apollo told him to kill his mother and revenge his father Orestes went home and did just so but he suffered from guilt and travelled for years with his cousin constantly at his side As the sin began to fade from him he went to speak to Athena with pure lips He wished to be completely cleansed
