In Europe in the early 1900s nationalism militarism and the systemof alliances are three things that helped cause WWI Its important tolearn about WWI to make sure this terrible tragedy doesnt happen everagain The main causes of WWI are nationalism militarism and thesystem of alliances Nationalism can be defined as a deep devotion to ones nation Whenpeople have a large devotion to their country they get frustrated whenyou mess with or do something to their country like what Serbia did toAustria-Hungary a group from Serbia called the Black Hand killed thearchduke of Austria-Hungary Franz Ferdinand Austria-Hungary declaredwar after the incident When something happens to something you loveyoure not going to just let it go You want to get back at them justlike what Austria-Hungary did Militarism is the belief that to be truly great a nation needs tohave a powerful army When your nation wants to be big and powerful withlots of weapons theyre not going to want to just have them theyregoing to want to use them against other countries While the countrieswere building the weapons they were spending huge amounts of money about1400000000 total Britain felt threatened by Germany because Germanyinvested in a ship and navy also making their army bigger The System of alliances is a multiple agreement between differentcountries to support each other in conflict with other countries Thesystem of alliances started the war because when Austria-Hungarydeclared war on Serbia Russia alliance with Serbia started gettingtroops ready Germany declared war on Russia Germany declared war onFrance allies with Russia Great Britain allies with France declaredwar on Germany In under three months all Europe was in a war with eachother When you have a deep devotion to your country a strong powerfularmy and a good alliance Its easy to see how WWI broke out with allthree of those courses together Why just let
