For nearly fifty years children have become subjected to the world of beauty pageants where they have been forced to behave as young adults rather than the five year olds they actually are Young children spend numerous hours a day practicing speeches and model walks for upcoming pageants rather than focusing on schoolwork and playing with friends With an emphasis placed on appearance in beauty contests children become devastatingly concerned with the way they look before many of them can walk Nearly every child has been placed in a beauty pageant at least once in their lifetime Parents pay thousands of hard earned dollars on this pastime each year Some take pageants to the extreme and force their kids into participating for the parents own satisfaction All of this tremendous effort for what Hundreds participate in a pageant with only one gong home with the title What effects could this possibly have on the young children and teens mental state Does it strengthen them or consequently cause them to feel inadequate about themselves Take time to ask yourself what is the purpose behind all this madness Beauty pageants show women and even young children as objects They parade around in revealing clothing performing a talent and practicing a drone like speech consisting of world peace and frequent visits to a nearby animal shelter The judges expect them to be perfect nothing less than the best They have to have the complete package What is the big deal Mostly though its realizing what a cheap tawdry spectacle a state pageant isits produced suspiciously like your high school talent show but with a 1000 entry fee and everyones talent is walking in Lucite platform heels The ads may sound enticing with promises of scholarships to a school you will never attend prizes cash and possibly even modeling opportunities
