Richard Nixon was elected to be Eisenhowers running mate in the Republican National Convention Nixon disappointed the majority of American people when an article blaming him for misusing campaign funds was published After being charged with this offense Nixon delivered his Checkers Speech by television to the American people He had to do this to keep him and Eisenhower from negative publicity Nixon claims that the campaign fund was not hidden because he had made it public in Meet the Press He also talks about how no contributor received special favors for the contributions they made Nixon 1 Within his speech he talks about how the money that he received from the business people was used for political expenses that he thought should not be charged to the taxpayers of the US Nixon 2 Nixon talks about his salary as a Congressman and as a Senator as well as his early life He does this to show that he is in office for intrinsic purposes and not for extrinsic purposes such as for using campaign money to live life full of luxuries Within speech he attacks opponents verbally In the end of the Checkers Speech talks about how he received a dog from a man in Texas after reelection and a sorrowful letter that he received from a 19 year old person Nixon counter agues Mr Mitchell claim that only rich man should serve his government in the United States Senate or Congress Nixon 6 Nixons Checkers Speech kept him in the ballot ticket and gained him even more popularity because of the manner that he associated himself with the American people He associated himself with the American people by talking about his economic status upbringing contradicting the allegations made by his opponents and backfiring other important political people Many politicians use Political Language to persuade people into believing their claims With political language there
