In Middle Eastern countries most people struggle on a daily basis the majority of these people are women The film Osama takes place in Afghanistan where 9 out of 10 women are illiterate The women in Afghanistan live in fear of death rape and prison These women face a life expectancy of 44 Though men deal with a similar life expectancy their lives are considered far better as they are not discriminated against from many things that help make their lives easier This is demonstrated by a cultural indifference as the men in Afghanistan can work and be the breadwinners for their families while women are unable to work Afghani Women are physically hurt and emotionally scared because of the way the men of the Taliban enforce control over the women and abuse them These women are physically abused by the Taliban and often the common men of Afghanistan take advantage of their gender and use discriminative treatment towards women This is clearly evident in Osama as woman are neglected victimized and discriminated against Gender discrimination causes Osama to approach matters such as family issues emotional suffering and physical harm Gender discrimination impacts many characters in Osama Osama faces family issues due to the fact that her family is currently made entirely up of women In Osama only men are able to work and be the breadwinners for their families This is supported by the quote Its not for political reasons Were hungry We need jobs preached by the women of a female revolution women want the opportunity to work and feed their families but they are denied this possibility In addition the hospital where Osamas mother used to work is closed Osamas mother tries to help the familys financial circumstances through caring for sick patients however if the Taliban ever catch her doing so she will be punished placed in jail or stoned to death This depicts the impacts that the gender biased Taliban
