In this article the author argues that the health needs for bisexual students are not met within many college health centers Oswalt argue that most colleges are now becoming more sensitive to the needs of people who consider themselves as gay men who have sex with men or lesbians women who have sex with women but the staff of college health centers are not considering the needs of bisexual students Oswalt implies that the needs of bisexual students are different from that of gay or lesbians and those bisexual students should not have to be thrown in the same category The author had several finding to support her accusations one being that some people prefer the bisexual identity according to the Diamonds 5 longitudinal study However Oswalt felt that this find enough was not enough because the difficulty of defining who is considered bisexual is still confusing to some individuals Oswalt also found that about 32 of women and 19 of men on college campus reporting sexual feeling for both the same sex and the opposite sex In one study heterosexuals rated bisexuals individuals less favorable than any other group Oswalt2009 Oswalt could not find research that separated the health needs of a bisexual from that of a gay man or a lesbian woman Most studies found in relation to the health of bisexual individuals focused on HIV and AIDS and the idea that bisexuals would bring the disease into the heterosexual community According to Oswalt one study that she found related to the health of bisexuals associated anxiety depression suicide and self-injuries with being bisexual Oswalt did well with organizing the research needed in order to support the point that she was trying to make Previous articles and studies were used to support the author The author use several different references most of which were published within the last ten years Most of the research used was empirical studies and
