Introduction Barbara Rogoff said The goals of human development-what is regarded as mature or desirable vary considerably according to the cultural traditions and circumstances of different communities Looking through the lens of an early childhood professional an in-depth study between how cultural tradition plays into the role on how a child develops can help provide meaning on how a child develops within their cultural and what they bring to the classroom environment This paper investigates how culture influences the parenting practices of three mothers who self-identify as Mexican American To better understand who these mothers where an interview was set up for each and specific questions about family of origin becoming a parent children and parenting practices and cultural and intergenerational differences were raised All areas combined reveled how these mother transmitted their cultural practices to their children Although the interviews allowed for a detailed analysis of the culture it was important to research the Mexican American culture to reflect any of the themes within these interviews In addition a reflection of how research Barbra Rogoff and Charles Harkiness and Sarah Super theories contributed to the understanding of these mothers in addition to how they assisted in my interviewing of each mother is an important part of this paper To locate these mothers I contacted woman at the Basilica of Saint John in Des Moines Iowa in early February This Basilica has a large immigrated community that includes families from Mexico In addition the Basilica has a Mexican heritage department The woman I spoke with was able to take the information about the study and create a search to locate the mothers I waited to see who was interested and within a week I received two phone calls and one email All interviews were throughout the month of February The following table details the mothers demographic information Name AgeChildrenMarital Status Employment Status First Language Religion Education Daisy 452 Ages 7 and 14 Single Spanish Coordinator
