Give me liberty or give me death said Patrick Henry at the Virginian House of Burgesses in March of 1775 Patrick Henry was attempting to convince the house that war was inevitable and they needed to send troops to fight in the war He was a patriot during the American Revolution as well as a persuasive orator and straight to the point Patrick Henry was most famous for those powerful wordsPatrick Henry the second out of nine children was born May 29th 1736 in Hanover County Virginia to a large poor family He was educated by his father and uncle who shaped his views with Anglican references At the young age of eighteen Patrick Henry married sixteen-year-old Sarah Shelton and received as a dowry a 600-acre farm as well as 6 slaves eventually he accumulated more slaves Patrick and Sarah had 6 children together When Sarah became ill and died he remarried a woman named Dorothea Dandridge After being an unsuccessful farmer and store owner Patrick Henry became interested with politics and law In 1760 after winning the admission to the bar he started a very successful practice in the county courts as a lawyer and his career took off from therePatrick Henrys opinions just grew stronger and more personal as he got older When the Stamp Act passed Patrick Henry opposed it and was not afraid to speak up He publicly accused King George III of being treasonous and introduced some resolutions to the Virginian House of Burgesses to change the act Patrick Henry had a firm belief that the Colonies would declare independence and he would personally do anything in his power to make sure of it In effort to convince the House of Burgesses that it was necessary to send troops to fight because war was unavoidable Henry expressed his well decided opinion Patrick Henry concluded his strong speech
