Medicine is an art worthy of worship I thought As I passed tourniquets syringes and other medical supplies to nurse patti and Dr johnson They were on their heels trying to save the life of a 48 year old man whose heart was running a marathon Johns heart was pumping 211 beats per minute which explains the severe chest pains he was going through Im not going to survive this time John thought aloud After being flat lined twice in his life time he thought he ran out of luck Dr johnson is one of the most compassionate er doctors I have worked with I saw him a couple of times took time off his busy schedule to spend time with patients and their family members consoling them and even hand them warm blankets That night with john was quiet different He barely had time to console him At that moment I realized my job was more than just handing out medical supplies When john received the news that he was going to be injected with a medicine that would stop his heart for a minute I could feel the heat of fear pouring off his eyes I held his hand wipe off his tears and reassured him that he was going to be fine The smile of relief he displayed on his face melted my heart It dissolved the thoughts in my head The thoughts of a 3 hour train ride after a 12 hour night shift to start a new day with an early morning biology class Despite the hardship I was going through at that point of my life The er was my sanctuary Anytime I stepped on the gate of the er my personal problems flew off the window I saw sick people that deserve help more than anybody Depressed suicidal patients who are in need of a family to share their problems with Adorable Kids that are
