My Father always used to tell me you learn something new every day I couldnt understand what it meant till I got older you learn something new every day but some of those lessons you learn will have a greater impact on the rest of your life One of those lessons for myself didnt only impact me but also the city of Fredericksburg I grew up in the city of Fredericksburg Virginia where football is a huge deal and bleed orange and black for the local school James Monroe High School I attended James Monroe as a sophomore and wanted to be a part of the great tradition so I decided to play JV my first year As the year went on I had been getting a lot better and was considered being brought up for the upcoming state playoffs but since they were loaded at the defensive end position I didnt have the chance to be on the sidelines as a sophomoreThe Varsity team was pumped for these playoffs but no one was considering them to go very far maybe one or two wins We ended up going through some major power houses such as Poquoson and western Albemarle teams we hadnt beaten in years James Monroe ended up shocking the state and taking the underdog role as all the papers called it With only one game left till the state championship everything was going James Monroes way until one are best defensive players was sidelined for a severe knee injury Going into the state finals all the papers said things such as the road is over and the luck ends here for the jackets which just made us play even harder and destroy Courtland Everyone was ecstatic James Monroe High school in the state championship who would have guessed But unfourtanitly all roads lead to the almighty Brookeville High school with nine all state players five attending division one schools
