We live in a world where women slightly outnumber men Women no longer are solely housewives They hold prominent positions in business yet television and film still portray them as young dumb and beautiful these being there only qualities Most people would think that since we live in a time where most households bring home two incomes from both husband and wife that the media would portray these realistic views Instead they continue to feed us false illusions of what women once were but are no longer The average American spends more than half their awakened hours a week in front of a television set Since we are so close to our TV screens we often trust them too much People forget that TV is simply TV They trust that what they are shown in the media is truthful or at least somewhat accurate The problem is that most women today work nine to five jobs and take on just as many activities and chores as men do Yet they are still shown on television and in film as submissive wives who only take care of the home and children If they are shown in any other positions it is usually as an over sexed business woman who will sleep with any man that can advance her career She is not seen as having enough intelligence to acquire her job without help from a male figure Television still perpetuates traditional gender stereotypes because it reflects dominate social values Soap Operas as an example lean towards a more fictional approach Women have a specific appearance for certain roles The younger and more attractive a female actress is the more respect she will receive from the entire media industry For example a gorgeous blond-haired blue-eyed model type catches the attention of an older wealthy graying possible out of shape man The man will usually if not always leave a wife of an older or same
