To create effects in their writing authors use precise word choice to express their thoughts to their readers As well as precise word choice authors use sensory words phrases and figurative language In Framed the author highlights the power of the water the power of the wall and the power of the fire In the beginning of the story the water begins to seep through a hole in the hose Before the hose begun to seep water began to overflow from the valves and leakage of the hose In desperation yet another one of their equipment is not functioning To demonstrate the power of the water the author uses the phrase needle of water comparing the needle and the water The water begins to pour out a little hole from the hose similar to a needle the water spouts in a straight form The needle of the water emphasizes that they are not putting out the fire since the equipment is not functioning Furthermore as the fire progress the fire becomes more alive To describe the power of the fire the author uses a simile like a man about to be knighted The simile emphasize that the speaker is succumbing to the fire by kneeling down and bowing The author states the action the speaker took as he succumbed I knelt slowly on one knee with bowed head which emphasize that he was showing respect like he would to a queen or a king He is showing respect to the fire because of all years these years there has never been a fire like the one he is surrendering to Since the speaker succumbed to the fire the author successfully demonstrates
