No Child Left Behind Act Deemed UnsuccessfulOfficially signed into law by President George Bush on 8 January 2002 was the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 This act was essentially the reform of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act ESEA the central federal legislative in pre-collegiate education First passed in 1965 and subsequently reauthorized in 1994 the ESEA stood as the national governments prize program to extend a helping hand to disadvantaged students Whether rich or poor American children are granted the same prospects to learn and succeed thus making public education the great equalizer But not all schools were created equal At that time the level of the quality of education for all became a concern of the public as a whole The No Child Left Behind legislation established requirements that touched into virtually every public school in America Fundamentally these measures were aimed at driving extensive improvement in student achievement and to hold states and schools more accountable for student progress Several of these requirements included standardized testing teacher qualifications and reading first It expanded the federal role in education However according to The Gallup 2012 More Americans think No Child Left Behind has made education in the US worse rather than better Whether Republican Democrat or Independent when it comes to this legislative act they are unanimous that it has worsened education at 87 percent cumulativelyThe standardized testing implemented by the No Child Left Behind Act is destructive These tests range from a variety of subjects mainly math and English The problem with these tests is that they decide the amount of funding individual schools get This acts as a weight on the shoulders of the students to succeed in the classroom and puts immense pressure on the teachers to ensure that the students truly grasp the concepts taught Notably thirty-eight percent of schools were failing to make adequate yearly progress by 2010 up from twenty-nine percent in 2006 As mentioned
