Vicious words and spiteful actions haunt the hallways of every school creating an uncomfortable learning environment for many children Starting at a young age children realize the power they have over the emotions of their classmates and this power can be used as verbal and physical ammunition against one another A study led by Dr Debra Pepler a psychology professor at Torontos York University found that close to 10 percent of children who bully other kids in late elementary school continue to act as bullies through high school Focus Bullying is defined as repeated physical or verbal abuse that involves a power imbalance Focus It is sometimes believed to be a normal aspect of life however when people begin to have this mentality they forget that it is physically and psychologically harmful to the victim bully and witnesses Prevention is extremely important when it comes to this ceaseless situation but so is acknowledging where this bad behavior originates Knowing how to direct aggressive behavior within schools and other social gathering places for children will be vital when trying to solve this issue within society Aggressive actions towards one another have always been embedded into every culture in a myriad of ways Between reality television shows violent action movies and even the progression of social media its seemingly impossible to escape the constant presence of bullying within society When public figures act in harmful ways they influence the actions of children and young adults Children idolize people in power causing him or her to do things they wouldnt normally have the desire to do Children may often acknowledge the behaviors of negative role models as normal safe and acceptable admiring them in a psychologically damaging way When there is a constant pressure for success within school and an overwhelming need for acceptance shadowing the behavior of a dominant figure can prove to gain approval from peers Parents and caregivers can intervene by emphasizing those
