Stephen Vincent Bent wrote this Book By The Water Of Babylon In By the Waters of Babylon priests travel places that commoners cant go Places such as Dead Places also known as a sprit house In Dead places priests collect metal It is forbidden to go to any of the Dead Places except to search for metal and then he who touches the metal must be a priest or the son of a priest John says As you can see no regular commoner goes on this trip I have been in the Dead Places near us with my father -- at first I was afraid John says In the future John said he knew he was no longer afraid he learned the ways of the houses In the book John travels on his journey to the East which was forbidden It takes a lot of courage to go travel to a place were no one has gone in for who knows how long Also priests have all the power and it is not to out of ordinary for a priest to travel to the East In this short story Priests are believed to do magic Since priest learn certain chants and spells doing magic doesnt sound that odd Even outsiders such as hunters and the Hill people think priests use magic Yet they do not but the priests say they can believe what they want because it doesnt hurt them Which is the fear of the unknown People in this society think gods can do magic and a priest is a god like character and very close to a godEven deeper into the book John did think the gods of the Forbidden City practiced magic John says when he is visiting the city This is must have been a strong magic but the magic was gone In this part of the book he also
