The movie the Machinist is a 2004 psychology impressed of the actChristian Bale As the film begins it presents a blurred image ofTrevor through the rain streaked window of his apartment as he isrolling a body in a large tan carpet He then walks to the window tolight a cigarette displaying bruises and cuts all over his face Thefilm compares him uploading the rolled carpet from one end of thecarpet He struggles to carry the carpet to a waterfront and tosses itdown a flight of steps into the ocean A guard carrying a yellowflashlight walks up to Trevor and asks Who are you Trevor is thenshown back in his apartment washing his hands with bleach in hisbathroom sink The picture pans back The same yellow flashlight theguard was holding is now lying on his coffee table Trevor notices ayellow post-It note on the wall behind him with WHO ARE YOU writtenon it The film alternately illustrates how Trevor has been bothphysically and mentally by shifting through scenes with his girlfriendhis apartment his work and with a waitress at a diner It shows him inbed with a girl Stevie and shows graphic images of his body He isshown again with her later in the film where he states that he justwants to sleep and that he hasnt slept Stevie asks Trevor if he isgoing to save her as asking if he is the right guy The Machinist alsoshows examples of the Freuds the Id Ego and SuperegoThe id is taking control the Id taking control in the movie is shownbetween Trevor and Stevies relationship at its core Stevie is aprostitute and her Id is taking control in her desire to have sex withmany partners Trevors Id is taking control through his relationshipwith Stevie since his need for sex lead him to meet her and use her forthis reason Even though their relationship begins to become more thanjust a sexual exchange
