Purchasing a new car is an exciting experience to most individuals It is one of those few long term commitments that most of us make in our lives Production of automobiles has been evolving ever since K Benz invented the first modern internal combustion engine automobile Throughout the last century intensive research and development efforts by many production specialists all around the world converted this type of vehicle into one of the most efficient and reliable means of transportation Technology made it possible for modern automobiles to last for years With the technology comes the cost and this is where buyers are faced with a chain of serious decisions To better understand potential car buyers it is helpful to consider their pre-purchase decisions their actual state and Maslows hierarchy of needsEven though Maslows hierarchy characterizes a purchase of an automobile as pertaining to Ego Needs category its not always the case in our country United States is one of the few countries in the world where people heavily rely on personally owned vehicles Public transportation is nearly extinct in some parts of the country Only a few major cities in the actually have a somewhat sufficient system of public transportations Thus if judging according to the American population purchase of a new car is better characterized by the Belongingness category Owning a personal vehicle also has to do with Physiological level of needs It is possible to survive in suburban America without a car however there would likely be instances where not having a car will translate into not being able to obtain food sleep or even water On the other hand since cars are high dollar investment items many people across the country invest into additional car features They often overpay for brand names and sometimes they prioritize a vehicles appearance over its performance and quality This definitely illustrates an Ego Needs level of Maslows hierarchy of needs For some people having a nicer
