The United States government will never fix its debt in fact it is likely that the debt will get worse in the coming years The main reason is that our government is not doing anything to prevent us from sinking deeper into debt There are many factors that contribute to the increase in the United States national debt including wars social security and presidential policies Also it is expensive for the United States to continue being the protector of the free world In addition given the current state of economy Obama is spending heavily to get the economy back on track This continual increase in the national debt is triggering another major problem the debt ceiling The United States government will once again hit and be forced to raise the debt ceiling in the coming years Weisman JonathanThe United States has been spending excessively and has been ignoring the fact that we are submerged in debt Average citizens would have to declare bankruptcy if they ran their personal finances the way the government handles our money The United States has been borrowing trillions of dollars in the past decades much of it comes from foreign investors to support our military and help to stabilize the United States economy Lodge George C Although the United States President and the Congress continue to discuss the debt issue they also continue to fund major military efforts in Iraq Afghanistan and other parts of the world To further complicate the issue the government continues to hit the debt ceiling The debt ceiling is the legal limit on borrowing by the federal government GAO Currently the debt ceiling was recently raised to over 17 trillion dollars as of February to keep the government operating Without raising the debt ceiling we would risk damaging the economy and shutting down the government Just to give you some background on the debt ceiling it has been in effect since 1917 At that time
