When we put ourselves in another persons shoes often our opinion changes because we consider how we would feel if we were that person in the same situation In the play Twelve Angry Menby Reginald Rose Juror 8 is the only individual that considers the defendants situation from beginning to end Juror 8 convinces the jury that there is reasonable doubt that the defendant is not guilty A jury must admit that there is reasonable doubt when they cannot prove that the evidence brought to the table is completely true therefore the defendant could be innocent If there is reasonable doubt the judge must be brought a verdict not guilty Juror 8 convinces the jury by demonstrating that the witnesses are not reliable and the boys story is believable I will demonstrate how he accomplishes his effort to suggest reasonable doubt throughout the playAct I begins with the jury entering after they have just finished listening to a six-day trial A sixteen-year-old boy is on trial for the murder of his father The defendant has had a rough life thus far between living in the slums roughly dealing with his abusive father and having a criminal record Automatically because of his background each juror besides one is convinced that he is indeed guilty Juror 8 criticizes the lawyers intelligence because of his lack of interest in the case He is the first juror that truly puts his effort into this case and believes the evidence does not match up Juror 8 tries to convince the rest of the jury that the verdict is not guilty and his story could makes sense Many of the other jurors make smart comments and think he is insane for feeling that way Juror 10 states Youre not telling us that were suppose to believe that kid knowing what he is p 13 This statement shows discrimination toward the boy because of his race and the neighborhood he
