Settlers in the Southern colonies and the New England colonies helped to develop two distinct regions when they migrated to another colony to improve the life style The religion the king of the England wanted to follow changed almost every time a new king came into power the citizens to become unhappy In 1492 Columbus arrived to the Americas thinking he arrived in Asia which began the Spains rule of the seas However in 1588 England defeated Spain In 1607 the first permanent England colony in Virginia resulted in the find of the thirteen colonies Even though the settlers came from New England Colonies and settled in the Southern Colonies major regional differences developed Although the Southern colonies and the New England colonies are on the same continent they are two distinct regions as evidenced by the landscape goals for settlement and the diversity among the settlers The different geography of the colonies helped them to become separate because of the climate differences the landscape differences as well as the agriculture differences In a table titled Reported Weather Conditions in New England 1607-1699 a reporter charted the general weather conditions for New England every few years According to the reporter the summers winters and springs climate vary from one another Spring and winter seem to have a constant pattern spring tends to be a cold and wet season and winter is usually a dry snowy and very cold season On the other hand the summers have an inconsistent climate it can be wet or dry and hot or cool Document E Therefore the unpredictable weather made it difficult for the citizens in that area to develop their society Agriculture became difficult to maintain every year because the crops would not grow with the lack of sun and water which resulted in less food for the people in that area to live with Since the soil in New England could have been more fertile the people
