Throughout the years people notice that crime in California has gone up Every time we watch the news people see crime happening whether it is in our own city or a city near us It is scary knowing that crime is happening around our state and that our prisons are impacted Also people see celebrities going to jail all the time in our state but they never fully serve their prison time Living in California can be a joke to live in when people see the prison rates keep going up Is this the state where people want to live in The state of California should rehabilitative their justice system as a result of reducing crime and prison rates The state of California should enforce laws to be more threating For example Three Strikes law was enacted in 1994 during the time United States set states to reforms their laws in 1970s California came up with Three Strikes Youre Out Sutton 37 Basically it is saying that if someone who has broken the law two times on their record can be sentence to life in prison if they committed a third crime Sutton 38-39 California needs to strengthen this law because this idea does not seem to work For example we see celebrities committing more than three crimes on their record but never serve life in prison How is that fair We need to fix it where people should be scared of punishment and there is no easy way out of it California should find ways to reduce prison rates For example Finland prison rates were four times has high in the 1950s Lappi-Seppae Lae 27It took Finland from the 1950s to 1994 to have their prison rate gone down What Finland did was that they did not give jail an option for different crimes For example if someone who used illegal drugs were send to rehab as a punishment They were also enforce them
