Descartes in his Meditations first rejects all belief in things that are not completely known and then tries to establish what can be known with absolute certainty In his third meditation which follows the proof of his own existence in the meditations before argues the existence of God Skeptics are puzzled when they come to his proof on the existence of God The proof is complicated in that it uses new forms of education for which the reader is not familiar such as Cartesian doubt We live in a world today that is very skeptical when it comes to proving the existence of God if it were possible to prove God exists there would be no need for faith Therefore even if there is truth in Descartes conclusion in his proof there is still uncertainty about the steps to reach itWhy does Descartes feel the need to prove that God exists He needs to prove God exists to implement his certainty of knowledge Descartes want to remove any doubts about clear and distinct ideas and he cannot remove those doubts unless he knows whether or not God exists and whether deception is possible Descartes begins leading into his proof by examining his own thoughts and sorting them into kinds will passions and judgments He concludes that the first two cannot be true or false because they do not pretend to represent things the way they are Therefore only in our judgments can we find those thought that symbolize something outside our existence Descartes then states that among these ideas some appear to me to be innate others adventitious and others to be made by myself Descartes 497 More clearly these ideas are from his own nature ie innate ideas that come from outside oneself and those invented by his own mind For example Descartes states Whether or not I will it I feel heat It is for
