Religion plays a big factor in Beowulf From the authors hidden references towards to the characters themselves praising it Beowulf became a hero because of Gods strength he put towards him If not Beowulf would have never been able to succeed the way he did In Beowulf whenever any man is able to achieve what they set out for the author will explain their success is from God For example The monster wrenched and wrestled with him but Beowulf was mindful of his mighty strength the wondrous gifts God had showered on him He relied for help on the Lord of All on His care and favor So he overcame the foe brought down the hell-brute 1269-1274 This proves that the author doesnt give all the credit to Beowulf but shows that without Gods gifts he wouldnt have survived Also for example Afterwards a boy-child was sent to Shield a cub in the yard a comfort sent by God to that nation He knew what they had tholed the long times and troubles theyd come through without a leader so the Lord of Life the glorious Almighty made this man renowned 12-17 This shows that there was no question in the authors mind that everything that happened in this story was because God wanted it to happen Therefore the author believes God is in total control over his creations and already knows of their fate to come The author also included references from the Bible the tale of Cain and Abel and of the Great Flood Grendel is evil because he is a descendant of Cain a man who killed his brother It is quoted as Grendel was the name of this grim demon haunting the marches marauding round the heath and the desolate fens he had dwelt for a time in misery among the banished monsters Cains clan whom the creator had outlawed and condemned
