There are several characters in the Biography Black Boy that had an influence on Richard The character that influenced him the most would be grandmother I believe that grandmother is one of the main influences on Richardss life and is one of the main people that caused him to turn out the way that he did Richards grandmother is a very spiritual person who believes in respect and doing things the first time they were told Richard sometimes has to learn the hard way that life simply just is not fair His grandmother tries to instill in him that being a Godly person is the right thing to do but Richard does not see the point in believing in God Seeing Richard with this type of attitude makes granny very upset and makes her want to give up on him Seeing Richard like this makes granny wonder what he is thinking During one of their conversations Richard is asked if he would like to attend church with granny He is not really sure how to respond to this due to him not believing in God He then proceeds to tell granny that he will not only go to church but also believe in God if he sees an angel Granny ends up misunderstanding Richard and thinks that he admitted to seeing an actual angel When Richard finds out about the misunderstanding he proceeds to tell granny that she is wrong in front of the whole church and ends up embarrassing her By doing this granny gets so furious that she wants to end up beating Richard Richard dodges her attack and ends up threatening to stab her with a knife Granny is on the verge of basically giving up hope on him but still has one more plan to try and renew his soul Once Richard and his family move back to Jackson from Arkansas granny enrolls him in the seventh day Adventist school where
