I consider myself a very fortunate person It has nothing to do with my familys social status We are not rich but what makes me fortunate is the fact that the majority of my close relatives all live in the same town I grew up around both sets of grandparents my great uncle and until two years ago two great grandmas who have passed away I consider that to be about as fortunate as it can get My two great grandmas never ceased to amaze me even until the day the passed away They had completely opposite personalities but they both possessed that sense of family and caring and I am glad that I had the benefit of growing up with them Both of these remarkable women were also hard workers and put others before themselves My moms grandmas name was Mildred Carriere and everyone called her Grandma Midge She was 99 when she passed away and in the last four or five years of her life her memory started to fade and it eventually caught up to her But I can remember going to her house every day after kindergarten with my cousin and my great grandma this caring elderly lady would be standing by the hot griddle with a giant grin on her face We rushed in the door kicked our shoes off at the door ran down the short hall way to the kitchen and gave her a huge hug every day The smile on her face was one that I will never forget The highlight of our day was telling her what we had learned and accomplished and she was always proud of us and complimented us on a job well done The simple joy that she possessed from just seeing us is something that I will always envy She had the homemade pancake mix ready to
