Doesnt it feel good to know that you are appreciated and well respected When you demonstrate certain things that you value you will always feel good about yourself Values are the ideas we have about what is good what is bad and how things should be They are a personal inventory for what we consider most important to us in life They may shape the character we are and may be used to find goals that we want to be accomplished My values are ones important to everyone The first value that is important to me is respect Respect can be defined as a healthy appreciation of an individual and their talents Not only having respect for myself but having respect for others as well is extremely important Treating others with respect makes the world a much nicer place to live in and gives me a great reputation Respecting someone is not a difficult task In fact it is easier to respect people than it is to disrespect them As my grandmother always told me treat others how you would like to be treated It stuck with me throughout my childhood and will continue to stay with me for the rest of my life Being a very competitive athlete I have always had a desire to win and play my best Occasionally there would come a time when my team would lose and of course I would be disappointed but I always respected the other team for their efforts Just the opposite if my team would win I showed the same amount of respect to my opposing players After four years of high school sports I have received a number of compliments on how great my sportsmanship is Being respectful definitely pays off We live in a very diverse nation full of different cultures languages and races It is our duty to respect others of their beliefs and actions even if we dont agree with
