Read John 622-71 very carefully It is called The Bread of Lifediscourse by Scripture scholars In this discourse there are fourdistinct groups of people that Jesus is dealing with The Crowds TheJews The Disciples and the Twelve Notice that in verse 22 St Johnis referring to the crowd and Jesus deals with them until verse 40 Inverse 41 the attention shifts from the crowd to the Jews Sowhen Jesus refers to himself as the bread of life what happened tothe crowds and who is left The crowd asks Jesus for bread and Jesustells them he is the bread sent from God I dont understand who isleft In verses 41-59 Jesus is trying to convince the Jews of histhinking What is the advantage Jesus would have with the Jews thathe did not have with the crowds The Jews knew Jesus better andtrusted him more than the crowd How do the Jews react to Jesus teaching I am the bread which camedown from heaven v41 The Jews started questioning him Is notthis Jesus the son of Joseph whose father and mother we know How isit then that he saith I came down from heavenWhat does Jesus add in verses 50-51 to the teaching that he is the breadof life Jesus says that a person will live forever if he eats thebreadHow do the Jews respond to this teachingThe Jews freaked out because they didnt know how they were supposed toeat flesh It should be clear at this point Jesus having lost the crowds isnow at the point of losing the Jews as well What does he say inverses 53-59 that he did not say in verse 51 Jesus mentions blood willalso give eternal life He did not mention this before In verses 60-66 the attention shifts from the Jews to thedisciples What can we assume happened to the Jews The Jewsprobably went off and trusted JesusNow Jesus is left
