Bob Nightengale of USA Today states the Mitchell Report brings the shadow of steroid abuse and the cover up out into the light In the Mitchell report Mitchell calls out not only the players accused of steroid abuse but also everyone connected to Major League Baseball In this article Nightengale focuses on Roger Clemens and his steroid use the Code of Silence that the players displayed and the unclear punishment on the offenders Roger Clemens is a seven-time Cy Young Award winner He is one of the most dominant pitchers in MLB history and has an extraordinary win total of 354 games yet it may now be viewed as one of the most impressive displays of performance enhancing drugs in the history of any sport Clemens is named in the report nevertheless he denied any use of these drugs at any time during his career He was tested over the course of his career but never tested positive However the evidence that emerges in the report seems to indicate otherwise The real damage these allegations are causing is in the court of public opinion and many are questioning whether or not he should be nominated into the Hall of FameAlong with the rest of baseball the players themselves also kept quiet about the use of performance enhancing drugs They referred to it as a code of silence or a locker room mentality where what happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse As a player you knew things were going on pitcher Tom Candiotti stated but theres a locker room mentality You just dont give anybody up You hated to see what was going on but you just dont rat people outNightengale 3 Many other professionals also claimed they knew of teammates or opposing players that used steroids or HGH human growth hormones but no one ever dared to report or confront the player involvedIn as much the first agreement to ban steroids was in
