It was the year of 2004 that impacted my life immensely At the age of thirteen I fell off a roof shattering both my ankles and fracturing my wrist It was at a friends house and no parents were home Being thirteen years old I thought everything my friends did was the right thing to do If they jumped off a cliff I would follow After falling about fifteen feet on to concrete I was in shock Both of my ankles were distorted the only thing I could do was call my parents to tell them what had happened On the phone I stayed calm telling my mom I hurt my ankles and they needed to come get me Not knowing the severity of what happened my mom told me to come home once I told her I fell off the roof they were there to pick me up in a matter of secondsRushing to the emergency room I was going in and out of shock The drive was only about fifteen minutes but it felt like a lifetime After arriving the doctors immediately gave me a catscan and several x-rays to make sure I did not have any other injuries They made me wait a few hours before they could operate because they had to call in an orthopedic specialist Dr Mindy Siegal While waiting for her to arrive the nurses had to twist my ankles back into place With only a little pain medication this was by far the most painful thing I have ever experiencedOnce Dr Siegal arrived she came into the room that my family and I were in telling us she had looked at the X-rays and my right ankle was shattered in to over fifty pieces and I had shattered my tibia and fibula in my left ankle Only being thirteen years old I did not understand what this meant but from the reactions of my family I knew
