Everyday thousands of commuters drive to Chicago One Friday afternoon my mom and I decided to drive down to the city As were driving the inevitable happened as it does every Friday afternoon Hundreds of red lights appeared at once and cars began to slow down My mom says to herself Oh no This is going to be bad Right then I figured out what was happening and my heart began to sink like the Titanic We are in the middle of rush hour traffic Being the impatient one in the family I feel overwhelmed knowing that Ill be trapped in this car with no way out Starting to feel myself overheat I push the air conditioning button and every vent towards me I let the ice-cold air rush to my face making my whole body feel cool again Thirty minutes pass and my mom and I are in a dead halt Bumper to bumper cars are surrounding us BMWs Ford Lexus Toyota and Mercedes in all sorts of blacks whites and all the colors of the rainbow are covering the highway asphalt The semi-trucks on each side of us suffocate our car with diesel fumes and create a dark tunnel for us to sit in The highway becomes hectic Cars are trying to change lanes people are honking at each other and I see the occasional middle finger given to someone On the highway in traffic there are no rules While my mom drives I sit in the front seat excessively changing the radio trying to find a song both my mom and I agree on Struggling to find a station because 963 and 1035 are replaying the same songs as usual I turn the radio off out of frustration I lean my head on the window and close my eyes I think to myself Is there an accident ahead of us Will we be stuck here forever
