In todays society people would be surprised at the amount of gender discrimination that is still circulating in the world today Fighting equality seems like a never ending battle for women It seems evident that women still have to do a little more than men to get the same position even though they are equally qualified Society thinks that just because women are now working outside of the home that that is enough to say that men and women are equal A woman who is a strong advocate for womens rights and has also fought to get her spot in a high position is Nafis Sadik She had to face many obstacles and barriers in order to get the respect and attention that she deserved Her strong character and determination reflects her qualities of a great leader Still today Sadik is fighting for womens rights and is seeking for women to become leaders and fighters just like her Nafis Sadik was born in Jaunpur India in 1929 Even though her family was known to be conservative she was fortunate enough to have a father who truly believed in education for his daughter just as he would for his sons With the support of her father she was able to go to medical school despite the fact that the women in her family were known to get married young She became a civilian medical officer in a Pakistani military where she was responsible for the children and women ward She then joined the UNFPA in 1971 two years later becoming the chief of the program division for nine years then moved up as the assistant executive director for five years Shes a strong advocate for womens sexuality and reproductive health as well as childrens rights and parents responsibility Talking Leadership Conversations with Powerful Women 1999 pp 201-203 Sadik was never accustomed of being discriminated as a woman until she became a part of
