The negative implications associated with same-sex parent adoption continue to affect both attitudes and laws for the worse Society is still burdened with biased opinions against homosexual adoption which severely limits their rights as people not withstanding potential parents Therefore same-sex couples should be allowed to adopt just as equally as heterosexual couples Considering that many of the children left behind as foster children are minorities older children or those with special needs same sex couples have shown that they are most likely willing to take in the children left lingering in the foster care system Some may wonder What happens to these children if theyre not to be adopted According to Stephanie Pappas more than half of the kids adopted by gays and lesbians have special needs and at least sixty percent of gay and lesbian couples adopt across different races or ethnicities Pappas 1 This is extremely important being that minorities are the least to be adopted A considerable amount of heterosexual parents avoid adopting children with special needs or children that are much older only because most parents seek to have the ideal family and or have the want to nurture children as infants or toddlers as if he or she were their very own With that being said allowing homosexual couples to adopt would greatly decrease the amount of unwanted children left behind in the adoption system Many people say that children need both a mother and a father to be raised to provide the ideal aspects of gender However there are also many who believe that gender doesnt interfere with parenting Over the years the number of children living with parents of the same-sex has risen excessively As reported on the 2000 Census about 65000 children lived with same sex parents In 2012 110000 children live with gay parents which results at over a 100 increase In the process of this direction that number will only continue to escalate
