Satire is an element commonly used by writers who wish to point out thenegative aspects of society past present or future These aspects arelarge issues that can cause disrupt and pain as time increases without achange occurring In the case of Aldous Huxleys novel Brave New Worldsocietys actions allow for the satirization of its future downwardsspiral Huxley uses the death of Linda the exile of those notconforming to the status quo and the misuse of substances to satirizethe fact the todays society is and will continue to be impersonalunaccepting and immoralSociety tends to act and speak in a way that is out of touch from theiremotions For example citizens of the New World do not feel anyemotions other than happiness due to the brainwashing capabilities ofthe people high up in their form of government In this New Worldeverybody grows up with Controlers conditioning the beliefs that deathis normal and should not be mourned and having feelings distracts fromtheir main goal work When the death of Linda confronts John he rushesdown to The Park Lane Hospital for the Dying where she is beingreceiving treatment While conversing with a nurse about the whereaboutsof his mother John asks if there is any possible way that she couldsurvive The nurse rather cruelly states You mean of her notdying He nods No of course there is not Huxley 199 Johnturns pale and frightened startling the nurse confusing her in theprocess of his extreme display of emotions She does not notice thatwhat she said came across as harsh and cold due to the numerous yearsof conditioning she underwent Presently people do not think beforethey speak or apologize when one is necessary after something hurtful orignorant is said Once John finds his mother in the back of thehospital a group of Deltas enter the room as a field trip for theirdeath conditioning class These boys spot Linda quickly as they dispersethroughout the room and immediately notice her differences not shyingaway from pointing
