People seek companionship in dogs for many reasons I sought out Sandi as a companion for my current dog and disabled mother And while I only wanted her as a friend she taught me a much larger lesson After deciding to adopt a dog I began my search at the local pound I pulled into the parking lot of a seemingly quiet brown brick building Upon walking in the door I was greeted with the unpleasant odor of stale urine and wet dog Go on back and have a look said the woman at the desk She looked worn out and miserable Her wrinkled skin told me time had not been kind to her She sent us down a hallway to the back where the dogs were kept On the right side of the hallway there was a room with a couch and some dog toys opposite of that room there were dog baths and another woman in scrubs on her cell phone I could see that she worked there by the dog emblem on the top right side of her scrub top She was sweating profusely and gave me a whatre you looking at smirk I couldnt figure out why everyone there seemed to want to be anywhere else in the world at that moment As I neared the end of the hallway the foul odor grew stronger I opened the door to the kennel and I had at last found the source of the smell It was almost unbearable It hit me like a smack in the face In the room were kennels every single chain-link cage filled with one if not two or three dogs I got the feeling that just like the employees the dogs hated being there too I walked up and down the aisles searching for my new companion when I came upon Sandi Sandi was a small dog her being only 8 months old She was
