Life is all about choices be they good or bad I choose to make good decisions One of the most important and recent decisions I made was to attend the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics Over these last two trimesters Ive had an eye-opening experience as far as learning how to manage my time wisely and how to balance the three Ss School Sleep and Social That being said I still have occasional lapses in decision-making as I learn the hard way the consequences of procrastination so I would like to further improve my time management skills in order to avoid as much as possible what I like to call last-minuteitis In addition I hope to gain significant leadership and research skills and benefit the NCSSM community as Im in the process of applying for several senior leadership positions as well as summer research programs Im quick to know when to step up and be a leader but I also know when to be a follower and I hope that by being in a leadership position where Im expected to be a role model for my peers and hallmates as well as taking part in Leadership Seminar will help me hone those skills As for research skills while I have some prior experience in basic research techniques I would like to delve into research by either taking part in a summer program or better yet conducting my own research or with a mentor during my senior year Outside of academics being in a residential setting has taught me how to effectively communicate and get along better with different groups of people as well as how to respect others space and privacy skills which I would like to sharpen even more within the next year by branching out to people of all backgrounds as well as taking part in andor attending the different cultural fests at school ie Africa Fest and Latin America
