It started out a day like any other It was a warm day It was theperfect day for all of us in the summer cycle of basic training at FtLeonardwood to qualify with our weapon We did our normal physicaltraining before the sun came and then marched to the BRM range Thisis where we would all be doing the best we could shooting the targets This meant a lot to all of us Nobody knew the horror this day wouldhold September 11 2001 is a day that will go down as one of the worstterrorist attacks in history We were all nervous as we waited for the sound of our name beingcalled from down range There were tired soldiers everywhere waiting fortheir turn I heard them yell my name Private Naso you are up Iwas as nervous as I had ever been I could feel the sweat on my palmsand prayed it did not affect my grip As I walked to my position Icould hear the hail of bullets fly by as other soldiers were shootingtheir weapon I got to my target and took my place lying down in theprone position The sun glared down on me from the sky making it moredifficult to focus on the target 50 yards away I heard the wordGO and began to fire away When I was done I stood up and walkedtoward a storage building to return my weapon and the ammo I had leftover That is when I heard the announcement on the radioTerrorists had hit the Twin Towers in New York When I heard this Imust have turned white as a ghost because I heard someone at the tableask if I was ok The news had taken me by such surprise that I began tofeel sick as a dog I had to sit down Everybody
