Shays Rebellion was a revolt that took place in western and central Massachusetts This rebellion was named after a veteran of the American Revolutionary War whose name is Daniel Shays Shays rebellion started the summer of 1786 when Shay formed an uprising against the government for not listening to the complaints they had on the economy On December 26 1786 George Washington wrote a letter to Henry Knox expressing his thoughts on the rebellion in Massachusetts and the Convention in Philadelphia The letter shows the insight that exposed all that was won during the Revolution Washington wrote If your laws authorized and your powers were adequate to the suppression of these tumults in the first appearances of them delay and temporizing expedients were in my opinion improper these are rarely well applied And the same causes would produce similar effects in any form of government if the powers of it are not enforced I ask this question for information I know nothing of the facts Washington 152 This means that if youre unable to enforce laws then the revolution must overcome its difficulties Washington was in no mood to attend the Philadelphia Convention because he felt he would not get anything out of going He stated Knoxs plan as being energetic It has been supposed that the Constitution of the State of Massachusetts was amongst the energetic in the Union Washington 152 However pressures from certain people lead George Washington to attend the convention in the end
